Overview

This program will focus attention on habeas issues, an area of criminal law practice that is too often not well understood, by providing a view into habeas law and practice from both the prosecution and defense perspectives. It will be useful both for habeas practitioners and their staff, and for trial lawyers and their staff who want to steer clear of post-trial problems.

The program will feature:

  • Discussions on habeas practice before the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals
  • Case study reviews focusing on DNA Mixtures, Ineffective Assistance and Actual Innocence (i.e. what to do when this sort of case hits your desk, and more).
  • Ethics

This course is funded by a grant from the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
