Overview

Participants will gain insight into the print and broadcast media - who they are and why they do things the way they do. In addition, class members will develop skills in building trust with outside information groups, preparing and presenting your message, crisis management and organizing the functions of a public information office. Finally, this course will help executives and spokespersons communicate more effectively with their many publics. This course will include an in-depth evaluation to provide managers with the skills to deal with changing news media in an electronic age.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for managers and executives as well as public information officers in law enforcement and emergency service agencies.

    Senior Intelligence Officer, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Department of Homeland Security

During his police career, he served as Commander of Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Administrative Services, and Tactical Operations Divisions in the Richardson, TX, Police Department. He also served as the Department's major media contact, addressing both nationally and internationally covered reports, including one capital murder case which spanned two years.

TCOLE Credit

Law enforcement personnel attending this course are eligible for eight (21) hours of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) credit.

The Hyatt Place is located approximately 4 miles from the Institute and offers a complimentary continental breakfast available weekdays from 6:30 am - 9:30 am and weekends from 7:00 am - 10:00 am featuring fresh fruit, cereals, toast, bagels, juice and coffee. Complimentary shuttle service is available within a five mile radius 7:00 am - 9:00 pm. Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access is available throughout the hotel. 24-hour fitness center and outdoor pool is available for the Hyatt Place guest.

Registrants should contact the hotel directly at least 2 weeks prior to the program date and advise them you are attending the CAILAW (plus the name of program) to obtain the reduced rate of $89 per night (plus 13% occupancy tax).

Course Cancellation Policy

Occasionally, the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA) may be forced to cancel a scheduled program. Whenever possible, the decision to cancel is made at least fourteen days prior to the start of the program, and registered participants are notified once that decision has been made. If the distance to the training site requires that you make airline and/or hotel reservations, please contact ILEA (+1.972.244.3430) to inquire about the status of any program before making travel arrangements. While paid registrations in cancelled courses will be refunded in full, ILEA will not be responsible for monetary loss due to cancellations or changes in airline or hotel reservations.
