Topics and Presenters

Returning Course directors Lee Hon (Polk Co. District Attorney), Kevin Petroff (Galveston Co. District Attorney’s Office), Sunshine Stanek (Lubbock Co. Criminal District Attorney), and Bill Wirskye (Collin Co. District Attorney’s Office) will be joined this year by Brian Baker (Brazos Co. District Attorney’s Office) and Sunni Mitchell (Fort Bend Co. District Attorney’s Office) to lead an experienced faculty of new and returning speakers for this annual program.

Attendees will be offered practical capital skills training, including topics on mental health and the laws affecting capital prosecution, plus discussions on relevant trends in non-capital prosecution, including officer use of force case, issues pertaining to grand juries, 2 hours of ethics – and much more.

Who Should Attend?

With the exception of invited faculty, attendance is limited to prosecuting attorneys and their personnel.

Need funds to attend this program? Limited Travel Scholarships are available to reimburse travel expenses. Email CAIL Staff to apply (requests are reviewed first come, first served). Applicants must be Texas State prosecuting attorneys and/or their (employed) personnel.

MCLE Credit

The State Bar of Texas has approved this program for a total of 17.75 hours, of which 3.0 credit hours will apply to ethics/professional responsibility credit.

In addition to Texas, after the program (if requested) CAIL will directly apply for course accreditation in the following states, as long as course materials and evaluations are not required: California, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Attorneys may be eligible to receive CLE credit through attorney self-submission in other states, as long as course materials and evaluations are not required to be submitted.
