Overview

Designed primarily for energy attorneys under 40 years of age, this conference will (1) provide young energy professionals with opportunities to network with their peers from in-house and law firm environments to build relationships that will benefit them professionally, (2) provide significant hours of energy related CLE for a low price, and (3) provide professional development training that will help attendees to be better lawyers and to reach their goals.

The U.S. Department of Interior’s approach to leasing of federal lands for oil and gas production has changed dramatically over the past decade, with current policies and actions giving rise to a flurry of litigation. This session will provide an overview of the regulatory framework for both onshore and offshore federal land leasing and how recent litigation and legislation could change the future of the leasing program.

Travis Torrence serves as Global Litigation Bankruptcy & Credit Team Lead at Shell USA, Inc., where he manages a team that handles all bankruptcy and credit legal issues for Shell’s business units in the United States and Canada. Travis is also a member of the Board of Directors of Premium Velocity Auto LLC, a wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of Shell. He is a two-time recipient of the Global Shell plc Legal Leadership Team Award, which is the highest level of recognition within Shell Legal. Travis graduated from Yale Law School in 2005 and received his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, in Communication and Political Science from Tulane University. Travis began his career as a law clerk for the Honorable Edward C. Prado of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Travis currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of the National LGBTQ+ Bar Foundation, Chair of the Yale Law School Fund Board, Secretary of the Hollyfield Foundation, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Access to Justice Foundation and the Alley Theatre. He is also a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for Tulane University’s School of Liberal Arts and the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work. He is the 2022 Grand Marshal of Houston’s LGBTQ+ Pride Celebration.
