The Institute for Energy Law celebrated in 2008 the 60th anniversary of its Annual Oil & Gas Law Conference and the 50th anniversary of the Institute itself.

Founded in 1959, The Institute for Energy Law (IEL) counts among its membership many of the world's leading energy companies and attorneys. Formerly named the International Oil and Gas Educational Center, the Institute for Energy Law provides advanced education for lawyers and other professionals in the energy industry. Through it's educational programs, scholarly publications and membership activities, the Institute for Energy Law serves as an important forum in which contemporary issues affecting the energy industry can be examined.

The achievements of the Institute during its first half century are due to the volunteer efforts of many outstanding attorneys, firms and corporations who as members have contributed their leadership, wisdom, time and financial support. We invite you and your organization to join us.

3rd Law of Shale Plays Conference

The 3rd Law of Shale Plays Conference will be led by conference co-chairs Bruce M. Kramer (Professor Emeritus Texas Tech Law School and Of Counsel, McGinnis, Lochridge & Kilgore, L.L.P., Houston) and David Poole (Senior Vice President - General Counsel, Forth Worth).

IEL's third shale plays conference will focus on the technology of shale production and the legal and regulatory implications arising from hugely expanded domestic production in some states not (or no longer) familiar with the oil and gas industry. For full details, click here.

2nd Oilfield Services Law Conference

Following the successful first Oilfield Services Law Conference in 2011, the IEL will be presenting a second conference at the Hilton Post Oak Hotel in Houston on October 15, 2012. The conference will be led by co-chairs Billy Jacobson, Weatherford International, and Aaron Ball, Squire, Sanders & Dempsey (US) LLP and topics will be centered on legal matters of particular interest to lawyers working in the oilfield services sector, or for oilfield service company clients. 11th Annual Energy Litigation Conference
