Founded in 1959, The Institute for Energy Law (IEL) counts among its membership many of the world's leading energy companies and attorneys. Formerly named the International Oil and Gas Educational Center, the Institute for Energy Law provides advanced education for lawyers and other professionals in the energy industry. Through it's educational programs, scholarly publications and membership activities, the Institute for Energy Law serves as an important forum in which contemporary issues affecting the energy industry can be examined.

New Committee Created for Young Energy Professionals!

The Institute for Energy Law (IEL) values the involvement of its younger members and wants to encourage more to join and participate. The IEL recently created the Young Energy Professionals (YEP) Committee, which has a seat on IEL's Executive Committee. Laney Vazquez, an attorney with BP, is the YEP Committee Chair. Steven Otillar, a Partner with Baker & McKenzie LLP, is Vice Chair. "Young" energy professionals are attorneys, landmen, engineers and other industry participants who are under the age of 40.

On Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the Magnolia Hotel, the IEL YEPs hosted a General Counsel Forum and Holiday Party in Houston. Energy professionals under 40 years were invited to enjoy a cocktail gathering, a General Counsel panel presentation on the subject of career development and dinner.
