Overview

A four and one-half day learning experience focusing on managing for change and the importance of using data, effective communication and problem-solving techniques to improve performance in police organizations. It is designed to provide for a stimulating treatment of current management practices using experiential exercises that focus on communication skills for managers. The first part of the course will include an assessment of management competencies and styles using MAP7. Ethics and leadership issues will be covered to assist police managers in thinking through the challenges that are prevalent in a changing environment.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for senior-level law enforcement managers and executives.

Faculty

  • T. Neil Moore, Ed.D.
    Director, Institute for Law Enforcement Administration
    Holds a B.A. from Kent State University; a MPA degree from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs and a Ed.D. from Ball State University. After serving 22 years in law enforcement, Dr. Moore served as Executive Director of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute prior to joining ILEA as Director in 2011.
  • Daniel T. Primozic, Ph.D.
    Associate Director, Institute for Law Enforcement Administration
    Holds a B.A. and M.A. from Southern Illinois University and a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico. Dr. Primozic has been teaching philosophy and ethics for over thirty years.
  • Gregory Smith, M.A.
    Associate Director, Institute for Law Enforcement Administration
    Holds a B.S. degree from Ball State University; an M.S. degree from the University of Texas at Arlington; and has over 20 years of combined law enforcement, military and teaching experience.

TCLEOSE Credit

Law enforcement personnel attending this course are eligible for thirty-two (32) hours of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) credit.

Schedule

Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Friday 8:30 am to 12:00 pm

Course Cancellation Policy

Occasionally, the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA) may be forced to cancel a scheduled program. Whenever possible, the decision to cancel is made at least fourteen days prior to the start of the program, and registered participants are notified once that decision has been made. If the distance to the training site requires that you make airline and/or hotel reservations, please contact ILEA (+1.972.244.3430) to inquire about the status of any program before making travel arrangements. While paid registrations in cancelled courses will be refunded in full, ILEA will not be responsible for monetary loss due to cancellations or changes in airline or hotel reservations.
