The Institute for Local Government Studies was created in 1968 as the Municipal Legal Studies Center. The Institute's goal was to provide programs that help to improve the professional skills of men and women who face the tough legal questions challenging our nation's communities. For the past four decades, the Institute for Local Government Studies has provided premier educational programs for those who are interested in land use planning, zoning and eminent domain.

Unfortunately, difficult economic times have made it harder for our audience to attend continuing education programs – and our attendance has fallen. Our Trustees have concluded the first phase of a strategic planning process and have decided that it is no longer feasible to support an independent local government Institute. This means that we will no longer have institutional members or a local government Advisory Board.

ILGS programs have tackled many of the most important issues of the day, and we have appreciated your interest in our programs.
