IEL Presents 2023 Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award to Bianca Roberson Johnson, Shell USA, Inc.

The Institute for Energy Law (IEL), a division of The Center for American and International Law, is proud to announce Bianca Roberson Johnson, Legal Counsel at Shell USA, Inc., as the recipient of its second Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. The award presentation will be followed by a fireside chat exploring important DE&I issues in the energy sector with Roberson Johnson and her interviewer, The Hon. Temeika Carter. The award reception will be held at the Holocaust Museum Houston, Lester and Sue Smith Campus, on Thursday, October 12.

Established in 2022 by IEL’s executive committee, the Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award was conceived to honor individuals in the energy sector who have championed diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal profession. Awardees are those who have displayed an ongoing commitment to strengthening the atmosphere of DEI in the energy industry or legal profession and exemplified leadership by creating avenues and opportunities for the ascension of diverse talent.

About Bianca Roberson JohnsonRoberson Johnson is Legal Counsel for Shell in the Contracts and Procurement group. Roberson Johnson collaborates with business partners in the drafting and negotiation of contracts for commercial projects globally. She has been Legal Counsel at Shell for six years and joined Shell in the Litigation group, where she was responsible for the labor and employment docket. Before joining Shell, Roberson Johnson worked as an Assistant District Attorney for the Harris County District Attorney's Office for three years. She graduated from Thurgood Marshall School of Law and received a Juris Doctorate in 2013.

Roberson Johnson is a member of the Houston Bar Association, the immediate past-Executive Director of the Downtown Group, and the immediate past Chair of the Young Energy Professional Committee. She is the IEL Diversity Committee co-chair and the YEP Diversity Liaison. Roberson Johnson has a strong commitment to her community as the Founder of WE WILL, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that she created to address the need to diversify the legal profession directly. WE WILL seeks to access, educate, and inspire high-achieving but underserved high school women about careers in law.
