The Institute for Energy Law (IEL), a division of The Center for American and International Law, announces David Castro, Sr., retired Chief Litigation Counsel at Hess Corporation, as the recipient of the 2023 Lifetime Achievement in Energy Litigation Award. The award presentation will take place at IEL’s 22nd Annual Energy Litigation Conference on November 2 in Houston, TX.
"David Castro is a respected leader in energy litigation who had a successful thirty-year career at Hess," stated Jay Ray, CAIL Vice President and Director of IEL. “His actionable insights and steadfast leadership in the field warrant acknowledgment and appreciation, making him a fitting recipient of the 2023 Lifetime Achievement in Energy Litigation Award.”
Established in 2002, the Energy Litigation Award is presented annually at the Energy Litigation Conference. It recognizes energy litigators for significant achievements in specific litigation or across their careers, as acknowledged by their peers.
About David Castro, Sr. - David Castro, retired Associate General Counsel and Chief Litigation Counsel at Hess Corporation, managed all of Hess’ global litigation during his tenure. A member of the Association of Corporate Counsel, American Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, and Houston International Arbitration Club, he also serves as a member of the Executive Committee and Vice Chair-Elect of the Institute for Energy Law. Admitted to practice in the Southern District of Texas, Castro holds a J.D. from the University of Texas, 1978.
