Overview

Join this year’s program chairs Brian M. Baker (Brazos County District Attorney's Office), Sunshine Stanek (Lubbock Co. Criminal District Attorney), and Bill Wirskye (Collin Co. Criminal District Attorney’s Office), for this annual prosecution training.

The program will review topics and skills central to capital prosecution (pre-trial preparation, voir dire, competency, closing arguments, cross examining experts), and provide discussions on topics of broader interest and relevance to Texas prosecutors and their staff. Topics include:

  • Lessons from a Recent Capital Case
  • Mass Shootings: What Prosecutors Should Know
  • Recent Legislative Updates on Forensics
  • What Prosecutors Can Learn from TDCJ
  • Trauma-Informed Victim Support
  • 2 hours of ethics, and much more!

This course is funded by a grant from the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

Who Should Attend?

With the exception of invited faculty, attendance is limited to prosecuting attorneys and their personnel.

MCLE Credit

The State Bar of Texas has approved this program for a total of 16.25 hours, of which 2.0 credit hours will apply to ethics/professional responsibility credit.

In addition to Texas, after the program (if requested) CAIL will directly apply for course accreditation in the following states, as long as course materials and evaluations are not required: California, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Credit hours vary depending on the jurisdiction. Attorneys may be eligible to receive CLE credit through attorney self-submission in other states, as long as course materials and evaluations are not required to be submitted.

TCOLE Credit

Law enforcement personnel attending this course are eligible for 16.25 hours of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) credit.
