Overview
This webinar, co-presented by CAIL’s Institute for Law and Technology and Other CLE, will explore the impact of technology on attorney wellness. The rise of new technologies has led to an increasingly connected world which, in turn, has led to added stress on lawyers, who find themselves "always-on." Our expert faculty will discuss these added pressures and their impact on an already highly stressful profession, and how lawyers can disconnect and improve their wellbeing.

Schedule and Faculty
11:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. (Central Time) Wellness Unplugged: Technology’s Impact On Attorney Mental Health (Legal Ethics: 45 Minutes)
- The Hon. John G. Browning – Spencer Fane LLP, Plano, Texas
- Jan L. Jacobowitz – Legal Ethics Advisor, Pinecrest, Florida
It is well-known that the legal profession suffers from higher-than-average rates of depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Lawyer well-being programs abound. But even with the growth of firm-sponsored wellness initiatives, the question remains: To what extent does lawyers’ reliance on technology and the resulting feelings of being digitally tethered and always electronically available contribute?
As it turns out, our increased dependence on and use of technology—higher than ever since the pandemic and the advent of working remotely—has a significant impact on attorney wellness. This presentation will provide you with data, share insights, and suggest some tools for unplugging and increasing control over your technology and well-being.
