The Center for American and International Law (CAIL) is pleased to announce that Jay E. Ray has been named Director of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA), effective immediately. Ray, who currently serves as Vice President of CAIL, succeeds T.L. Cubbage, who will now devote his full attention to his role as President of CAIL. Ray will lead ITA in addition to his role as Director of the Southwestern Institute for International and Comparative Law (SWIICL).
Ray brings extensive experience managing nonprofit legal associations to his expanded role. Before joining CAIL, he served as General Counsel for Pipeline Integrity Resources, Inc. and practiced commercial and appellate litigation in private practice for eighteen years.
His leadership in the legal community includes serving as Chair of the American Bar Association's 150,000-member Young Lawyers Division in 2006–07, as an officer or council member of that organization for nine years, on the Council of the ABA Solo, Small Firm, and General Practice Division for thirteen years, on the Lawyers Conference of the ABA Judicial Division, and in the ABA House of Delegates from 2003 to 2021. He has also served on the boards of directors of the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, and other legal and non-legal associations.
Ray earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law.
"Jay's proven leadership across CAIL's institutes makes him exceptionally well-suited to guide ITA's continued growth," said T.L. Cubbage, President of CAIL. "His deep experience building and sustaining nonprofit legal organizations will be a tremendous asset to ITA's members and mission."
