About the Series
Launched in 2022, the Promoting the Rule of Law webinar series is part of CAIL’s commitment to advancing justice through education and dialogue on critical legal and law enforcement issues. As a nonprofit educational institution, CAIL maintains a neutral stance on the topics discussed. The views expressed are those of the speakers. The series serves as a platform for diverse, informed conversations among legal scholars, jurists, and practitioners on matters of broad public and professional significance.
About this Webinar
Intergovernmental economic coercion can influence policy choices and undermine the sovereignty of those involved. The emerging “America First Trade Policy” appears to involve the use of a range of economic pressures to secure conformity with an array of U.S. trade and non-trade related demands. Other states are responding in a variety of ways, ranging from capitulation to retaliation.
This panel will examine the effectiveness of such pressure in achieving policy goals, the positive and negative consequences of applying pressure, the potential impacts on targeted states and nationals within those states, and the range of available responses for targeted states.
There is no cost to attend the event. Experience the discussion live on Thursday, June 5 at 10:00 AM EDT.
