Overview

This program seeks to bring together alumni of the Academy of American and International Law to socialize, learn, and make new memories, while also introducing CAIL and the Academy to other attorneys, legal professionals, and students.

The event includes a reception on September 11th and a substantive program on September 12th that is open to all. All other optional events on September 12-14 are only open to alumni of the Academy of American and International Law and their guests.

The cost for the welcome reception and substantive program will be $60 USD. Optional event prices will be made available soon. We will also have recommendations of hotels.

3:00 – 5:30 p.m. - Optional Free City Center Walking Tour

On the free tour through the City Center of Buenos Aires, you will learn about the political and historical perspective of the city. The tour will begin with the National Congress and then walk along the renowned boulevard of Avenida de Mayo with its magnificent buildings. The tour will include information regarding the glorious and terrible periods in the history of Argentina, from the Independence through the great Argentinian prosperity of the 1900s to Peronism, the last military dictatorship, and the return of democracy. After seeing the Evita Peron’s mural at the crossing of Avenida 9 de Julio, we will make a stop to learn about our local culture at the most famous café of Buenos Aires: Café Tortoni. We will finish the Free Tour in the heart of Buenos Aires, the Plaza de Mayo, the center of the city since the colonial period.


8:30 p.m. - Optional Dinner at Palacio Paz

Join alumni and members of our sister institute, the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, for a dinner at Palacio Paz. The cost is $40 USD. The event begins with a short reception at 8:30 pm, followed by a seated meal with wine service beginning around 9:15 pm.

Friday, September 13

11:00 a.m. - Optional Tour of Teatro Colón

Teatro Colón opened in 1908 and is considered one of the ten best opera houses in the world by National Geographic. The tour lasts approximately 50 minutes and includes the foyer, bust gallery, golden hall, and main hall. Tour prices are 9,500 ARS for Argentina residents and 20,000 ARS for all others (approximately $21.30 USD).

3:30 – 5:30 p.m. - Optional Tour of Recoleta Cemetery

A tour dedicated especially to the Recoleta Cemetery, one of the most wonderful and captivating places in Buenos Aires! The tour includes the story of the death and burial of Eva Perón, a fascinating story to discover one of the most famous and controversial personalities in the country, as well as historical, architectural data of the vaults and artistic heritage.

The entry fee to the cemetery for non-Argentinians is $14,320 ARS. The cost of the tour is $13,000 ARS (combined cost approximately $29 USD).

Join alumni for a fun night out beginning at Rabieta, a large microbrewery and restaurant. The cover charge will be waived and will include some food and refreshments depending on time of arrival. All other expenses are the responsibility of the individual attending.
