Overview

This program seeks to bring together alumni of the Academy of American and International Law to socialize, learn, and make new memories, while also introducing CAIL and the Academy to the guests of entities that participate in the Academy.

The EUR 350 registration fee includes the welcome reception on Day 0; the substantive program, lunch, and dinner on Day 1; and transportation, lunch, and dinner on Day 2.

CAIL’s goal is to keep the registration fee as affordable as possible to encourage broad alumni participation. Any additional optional activities will be offered at an additional cost, with details provided as plans are finalized.

Friday, October 2

10:30 to 11:30 a.m. - Substantive Program


12:00 to 4:00 p.m. - Sightseeing Tour of Tirana

The walking tour will begin along the main boulevard, Dëshmorët e Kombit (“Martyrs of the Nation”), and continue past several of Tirana’s most notable landmarks, including the Orthodox Cathedral, the House of Leaves, and Skanderbeg Square. Along the way, participants will learn about the cultural and government buildings surrounding the city center.

The tour will also include a visit to the Et’hem Bey Mosque, known for its distinctive frescoes and unique place among historic mosques in the Balkans.


2:00 to 3:00 p.m. - Lunch

Following lunch, the walking tour will continue to the Namazgah Mosque, a wonder of Ottoman-inspired architecture. From there, participants will visit the Pyramid of Tirana and continue along the boulevard to see the Prime Minister’s Office and other examples of Italian architecture dating from the Mussolini era.

The tour will conclude near Mother Teresa Square, with views of the Presidential Palace, the Palace of Congresses, and the surrounding civic and cultural buildings.

Saturday, October 17

8:30 a.m - Departure from Tirana for Shkodër


10:30 a.m. - Tour of Shkodër

The day will begin with a walking tour of Rozafa Castle, one of Shkodër’s most prominent historic landmarks. Perched on a rocky hill overlooking the Buna and Drin rivers, the castle offers impressive views of the surrounding area and a glimpse into the region’s long history.

The tour will then continue to the Lead Mosque, also known as the Mehmet Pasha Bushati Mosque. Built in the 18th century and named for the lead that once covered its domes, the mosque is recognized as a Cultural Monument of Albania.


2:00 p.m. - Lunch

Following lunch, participants will visit the Venice Art Mask Factory, which features an extensive collection of handcrafted Venetian-style masks.

If time permits, the group will also visit the Marubi National Museum of Photography. The museum preserves the remarkable photographic legacy of the Marubi family, beginning with Pietro Marubi, an Italian photographer who established his studio in Shkodër in the mid-19th century.


5:00 p.m. - Departure from Shkodër for Tirana
