Overview
We often believe that doing the “right thing” is a voluntary personal choice. However, while having a personal code of ethics is the core of good decision making; promoting a culture of ethical behavior in the workplace is first and foremost a key leadership responsibility.
In an era where police scandals make the front pages daily, teaching employees to be able to make ethical decisions should be a top priority for all managers who want to promote better work practices and protect the integrity of their agency
This one-day workshop is designed to provide managers with practical tools and strategies for effectively dealing with difficult decisions and fostering an ethical workplace culture.
Through research and real-life case participants will:
- Understand how their own actions and management style can serve as a barrier or facilitator for employees’ ethical decision making
- Learn to develop clear ethical governance practices by learning key principles of powerful ethical management.
- Be able identify the antecedents of ethical failure: excuses and pressures
- How to help good employees avoid bad decisions and their unintended consequence

About the Presenter
Dr. Cohen specializes in human resource management and organizational behavior. She develops and conducts leadership development workshops and programs for law enforcement executives and local government employees across the United States. She also teaches academic courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Dr. Cohen received her B.A. in Psychology and her M.A. in Organizational Sociology from Bar-Ilan University, Israel. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas. She has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
Dr. Cohen is an affiliated faculty member with The Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA) in Plano, TX, The Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) in Huntsville, TX; and The Law Enforcement Executive Program (LEEP) in Raleigh, NC. She is also the nationally elected District V representative for the National Council of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and the Book Review Editor for the premier journal in public administration, Public Administration Review (PAR).
TCOLE Credit
Successful graduates of this course will receive 6 hours of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) credit.

Course Cancellation Policy
Occasionally, the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA) may be forced to cancel a scheduled program. Whenever possible, the decision to cancel is made at least fourteen days prior to the start of the program, and registered participants are notified once that decision has been made. If the distance to the training site requires that you make airline and/or hotel reservations, please contact ILEA (+1.972.244.3430) to inquire about the status of any program before making travel arrangements. While paid registrations in cancelled courses will be refunded in full, ILEA will not be responsible for monetary loss due to cancellations or changes in airline or hotel reservations.
Eligibility Policy
The Institute for Law Enforcement Administration provides professional education and technical support to the law enforcement community.
A registrant in an ILEA program must be a sworn officer; a civilian employee of a law enforcement department; or an employee of a municipal, county or state agency.
Anyone interested in attending an ILEA program who does not meet the above standard requirements will need to request advance approval. Such requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
