Overview

Presented by Young ITA

Sponsored by Rebaza, Alcázar & de las Casas

Please join us for an evening of discussion and debate, followed by networking. The event is aimed at practitioners and general counsels but all are welcome to attend. We hope that you will be able to join us for what we are sure will be a very lively and enjoyable program.

The event will have the format of a moot court, where topics will be debated in four segments. Each segment will include a controversial statement related to investment arbitration. There will be two groups, each consisting of two specialists who actively participate in investment arbitration cases. Each group will have to defend a position either in favor of or against the statement. One group will represent the interests of states, while the other will defend the interests usually supported by investors. Some of the topics to be debated include: (i) the powers of states to regulate on matters of human rights and environmental rights; (ii) the possibility of using the most-favored-nation clause to incorporate procedural provisions; (iii) the need for a permanent arbitration court; among others. Following the panel discussion there will be a network reception.

7:00pm-9:30pm (GMT-5)

#YoungITATalks is a series of local events presented around the world, featuring talks, workshops or interviews that cover a wide range of subjects relating to arbitration.
