Overview
From nine-figure verdicts to climate change lawsuits, today’s most important energy cases don’t just decide disputes—they derive from broader controversies about the energy industry. Join three leading experts as they unpack litigation strategies and case trends that influence both the courtroom and the court of public opinion.
- High-Stakes Trial Strategy – Collin Cox will discuss Energy Transfer LP et al. v. Greenpeace International et al., the landmark jury trial that delivered a historic win for Energy Transfer LP and Dakota Access Pipeline—highlighting how trial advocacy and headline news about the energy industry can collide.
- Countering Reptile Tactics – Tracey Rice shares how to spot and defeat “reptile theory” arguments—powerful tools that tap into jurors’ sense of safety and community standards, shaping outcomes in cases with policy implications far beyond the parties involved.
- Climate and Coastal Litigation Trends – Professor Gina S. Warren surveys emerging cases nationwide, from climate change lawsuits to coastal erosion disputes, revealing how these battles are redefining the energy industry’s legal and policy landscape
