IEL membership comes in various categories, some available only to individuals, some to firms and corporations, and others to academic, government or other non-profit institutions.  Except for the entry-level membership for individual young professionals and students, all members receive one or more Advisory Board representatives.

IEL Advisory Board Member Benefits:

  • Free attendance at the Annual Oil & Gas Law Conference ($745 value), which includes more than one and a half days of continuing education, multiple meals, and several opportunities to engage with other members of the energy law community
  • Free attendance for yourself and one guest to the Annual Advisory Board Reception and Dinner on the eve of the Annual Oil & Gas Law Conference
  • Significant discounts on all IEL programs that are not already free for membersFrequent free member webinars and other e-learning opportunities
  • Free subscriptions, and the opportunity to submit articles for consideration, to IEL’s three quarterly e-publications, the Energy Law Advisor, Oil & Gas E-Report, and The Energy Dispatch
  • Free access to IEL’s Digital Library, containing papers and articles from IEL conferences on a wide range of topics from 2009-2019
  • Ability to be involved in smaller communities of members based on practice areas of interest, such as renewable energy, international, litigation and dispute resolution, oilfield services, transactions and compliance, and young energy professionals
  • Recognition as Advisory Board member on IEL’s Advisory Board member list on our website

Corporation / Firm / Organization Membership Levels

Sustaining Membership - $6,000 Annual Dues

  • Eight Advisory Board representatives (two under 40)
  • The right to designate up to four additional Advisory Board members under 40 for $300 each
  • The right to designate an unlimited number of additional Advisory Board representatives for $500 each
  • All employees entitled to member discount at IEL programs
  • Recognition as a Sustaining Member on IEL's website

Supporting Membership - $3,500 Annual Dues

  • Four Advisory Board representatives (one under 40)
  • The right to designate up to two additional Advisory Board members under 40 for $300 each
  • All employees entitled to member discount at IEL programs
  • Recognition as a Supporting Member on IEL's website

Sponsoring Membership - $1,000 Annual Dues

  • One Advisory Board representative
  • Choice of appearing in membership lists by firm name or individual name
  • Recognition as a Sponsoring Member on IEL's website

Academic / Government / Non-profit Membership - $395 Annual Dues

  • Available to universities, government agencies, judicial and arbitral institutions, non-profit corporations and full time employees of such organizations
  • One Advisory Board representative
  • Recognition as an Academic/Government/Non-Profit Member on IEL's website

Law School Membership - Free (By Invitation Only)

  • Available by invitation to law schools with a substantial energy law curriculum
  • One Advisory Board representative
  • Free attendance for two students at all IEL programs and member discounts at co-sponsored programs
  • Recognition as a Law School Member on IEL's website
  • Interested schools should contact the IEL Director for further details

Individual Membership Levels

Sponsoring Membership - $1,000 Annual Dues

  • One Advisory Board representative
  • Choice of appearing in membership lists by firm name or individual name
  • Recognition as a Sponsoring Member on IEL's website

Associate Membership - $650 Annual Dues

  • Member is Advisory Board representative
  • Appears in membership lists under member’s name
  • Recognition as an Associate Member on IEL's website

Academic / Government / Non-profit Membership - $395 Annual Dues

  • Available to universities, government agencies, judicial and arbitral institutions, non-profit corporations and full time employees of such organizations
  • One Advisory Board representative
  • Recognition as an Academic / Government / Non-Profit Member on IEL's website

Retired Membership - $395 Annual Dues

  • Available to individuals who are retired from full time employment.
  • Member is Advisory Board representative
  • Appears in membership lists under member’s name
  • Recognition as Associate Member on IEL’s website

Non-Annual Conference Membership - $395 Annual Dues

  • Member is Advisory Board representative
  • Does NOT include free registration to Annual Oil & Gas Law Conference
  • Appears in membership lists under member’s name
  • Recognition as Associate Member on IEL’s website

Young Energy Professional Membership - $75 Annual Dues (individuals under 40)

  • Membership of the Young Energy Professionals Practice Committee (but not the Advisory Board)
  • Membership discount at all IEL and Young Energy Professional programs and events
  • Recognition as Young Energy Professional Member on IEL’s website

Full-time Student Membership - $25 Annual Dues

  • Membership of the Young Energy Professionals Practice Committee (but not the Advisory Board)
  • Recognition as Student Member on IEL’s website
