Overview
The expert panel will delve into the current state and future prospects of the LNG market in Latin America, with a focus on Colombia, Argentina, and Brazil. This session will provide an update on the latest developments in these key markets, followed by an in-depth discussion on current and potential foreign direct investment in local LNG liquefaction and regasification processes. Specifically, the panel will explore how market drivers are changing and progressing, and what this means for the LNG industry in each country and the region as a whole.

An experienced energy attorney with an extensive track record advising on multi-billion-dollar international oil and gas projects and operations, Ali Hage is a partner of the Firm’s Oil, Gas & Biofuels and Infrastructure & Projects practices, based in Rio de Janeiro. Over the past 20 years, Ali has worked across different businesses segments within the oil and gas industry, from natural gas distribution and transportation to the full life cycle of the upstream, from early licensing and exploration to production and decommissioning. He is extremely familiar with providing strategic advice to oil and gas businesses, leveraging on his strong legal and operational knowledge of the industry to add value on how transactions should be structured and how risks should be managed. Ali has led and coordinated legal support to a variety of matters relevant to the oil and gas industry, from financing, M&A transactions and project development to critical issues closer to companies’ operations, including disputes, regulatory and ABC compliance, emergency response and procurement. Prior to joining the Veirano, Ali worked other top-tier Brazilian law firms and, for circa 13 years, in senior in-house legal counsel roles in Brazil and abroad with BG Group (Shell). With Veirano since 2017, he often advises clients operating and/or investing in oil and gas (including LNG) industries, also undertaking transactional and regulatory mandates relating to energy transition projects, particularly in respect of biofuels.

Since the beginning of his career as a lawyer, he has been involved in significant corporate matters and corporate financing.  Nicolás has over 25 years of experience advising clients in the private equity, natural resources, energy, and telecommunications sectors. From the early stages of his professional career, he has provided counsel on corporate matters, project financing, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), initial public offerings (IPOs), joint ventures, and private equity transactions. He is ranked in Chambers & Partners in the areas of Corporate and M&A, as well as in Energy and Natural Resources: Oil and Gas.

Angie Cabrera is a Senior Associate at Serrano Martínez, where she is part of the Energy and Public Utilities Infrastructure team. She advises national and international clients on regulatory, contractual, and ESG matters, with experience in energy transition, sustainability, and business structuring in regulated sectors. She has led the negotiation and management of complex contracts in oil & gas, hydrogen, and renewable energy, and has supported projects involving social investment and territorial development. Angie holds an LLM in Energy and Natural Resources from Queen Mary University of London and has completed postgraduate studies in Contract Law and Administrative Law in Colombia.

MCLE Credit
Texas Course Number 174286817. This course has been approved for Minimum Continuing Legal Education credit by the State Bar of Texas Committee on MCLE in the amount of 1.0 credit hours, of which no credit hours will apply to ethics/professional responsibility credit.
This online program has not been approved for MCLE credit in any other jurisdictions. If requested by attendees, CAIL will request accreditation in California, Louisiana, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
