The 70th Annual Oil & Gas Law Conference was held on February 21-22 in Houston, Texas. During the luncheon on the second day of the conference, David F. Asmus (Sidley Austin LLP) was named the Institute for Energy Law’s 2019 Deans of Oil and Gas Practice Lecturer. This award is presented each year to a distinguished legal practitioner or academic. The deans lecture is an opportunity for reflection and comment on a career in oil and gas law. Mr. Asmus used his lecture as an opportunity to reflect on the ten Texas cases that surprised the oil and gas industry. Mr. Asmus is an industry leader on structuring and implementing oil and gas development projects. He has been widely recognized for his work by Chambers USA, The National Law Journal, The Best Lawyers in America, and Lawdragon, among others. Asmus is also a previous chair of the Institute for Energy Law.
