Gretchen Watkins, Shell USA, Inc., Presented with the IEL's Distinguished Leadership in Energy Award

The Institute for Energy Law (IEL), a division of The Center for American and International Law, presented Gretchen Watkins, president of Shell USA, Inc., with the 2024 Distinguished Leadership in Energy Award at an awards dinner held during it's 75th Annual Energy Law Conference in Houston.

IEL, renowned as one of the nation's premier institutions for professional development and continuing education within the energy sector's legal field, awards the Distinguished Leadership in Energy Award to individuals with exceptional professional and civic accomplishments in the energy industry.

Vickie Adams, co-director of IEL, commended Watkins, "It was a privilege to honor Gretchen Watkins with this award. Her strategic leadership and dedication to the energy industry embody the award's essence. Gretchen's impact on the sector is extraordinary."

The award reception closed with a fireside chat with Watkins. James Cowan, US Head of Legal at Shell USA, Inc., introduced her, and Lauren Woodard, Senior Attorney at Shell USA, Inc., moderated the discussion. The conversation highlighted insightful anecdotes from Watkins's career and her perspectives on the evolving energy industry.

About Gretchen Watkins - Gretchen Watkins serves as President of Shell USA, Inc., leading the strategic integration of Shell's businesses in the United States and the US Country Coordination Team since 2018. With a career starting nearly 30 years ago as a Facilities Engineer for Amoco, Watkins has held various senior roles at Amoco, BP, Marathon Oil, and Maersk Oil, culminating in her position as CEO of Maersk Oil before joining Shell. During her tenure, she oversaw Shell's Global Shales business and has been instrumental in navigating the company through energy policy and societal challenges. Watkins holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and has received executive education from Cambridge and Stanford Universities, also serves as a non-executive director of the Mosaic Company.
