The Institute for Transnational Arbitration, a division of The Center for American and International Law, mourns the passing of former ITA Chair, Dean Jeswald "Jes" Salacuse. Dean Salacuse, who served as ITA Chair from 1992 to 1994, was a longstanding friend and esteemed colleague. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this time. His accomplishments will forever inspire and guide those of us in the field of international arbitration. Former ITA Chair Doak Bishop shared these words offered the following appreciation:
“Jes Salacuse was the first Chairman of ITA from outside Texas. He built upon the pioneering efforts of Bill Owen and Pat Murphy, who established ITA and set it on a path toward significant success. Jess enhanced that trajectory. As an outstanding scholar at Tufts University and a visionary leader of ITA, he brought national and international recognition to the organization, helping to attract prominent international arbitration practitioners to ITA’s meetings in Texas. Dean Salacuse personally authored many of the early mock arbitration scenarios that became a hallmark of ITA's annual programs. His contributions were pivotal to ITA's early success, and he will be deeply missed by all who benefited from his dedication to the organization.”
